What Kind Of Primer Do I Need?

What Kind Of Primer Do I Need?

You may be wondering how our iconic Liquid Silk Canvas and The Silk Canvas differ, and which one best suits your skin, so we made this little guide to help.

What’s the difference between the original Silk Canvas and the new Liquid Silk Canvas?
The Silk Canvas is a rich balm and is velvety soft on skin.
The Liquid Silk Canvas is an oil-free fluid and feels weightless on the skin.

Do both formulas protect the skin from makeup and pollution the same way?
Yes! Both the original balm and new oil-free fluid are skincare-first formulas made using three types of Japanese silk, skin-protecting botanical extracts, and Hadasei-3, our antioxidant complex for healthy, ageless skin. As a result, both formulas help to protect skin from makeup and pollution.

Do both formulas improve the wear of makeup the same way?
Yes! Both the original balm and new oil-free fluid provide a beautiful canvas for makeup from your face, to your eyes and lips. Also, both formulas pair beautifully with liquid, cream, and powder makeup to provide remarkable makeup payoff and prolonging its wear.

How can I choose which format of The Silk Canvas is best for me?
Good news, it’s totally up to you. If your skin tends to get mid-day shine, if you prefer liquid formulas, or if you like your primers to feel lightweight, you’ll love the new Liquid Silk Canvas. If your skin is feeling a bit dry, or if your skin just loves richer, creamier textures, the original Silk Canvas is the one for you. Also, our skin changes with the seasons, our hormones, and our diet. The good news is, no matter how it’s feeling, there’s a Silk Canvas for you.

We can’t wait to hear how your skin is looking after you try these formulas and thank you always for the honor of taking care of you.

Wishing you healthy-looking skin and perfect makeup,

The Tatcha Family

What is Fukubiki?

What is Fukubiki?

The Japanese game of fukubiki is a centuries-old tradition still practiced today at seasonal festivals and even retailers. Learn about the custom and how you can win up to 4 complimentary minis for a limited time. What’s your favorite summer activity? If you have the chance to visit Japan, you’ll likely get to experience one of its famous summer festivals, or natsu matsuri. Though each has its own meaning and purpose, at their root most seasonal festivals are held to honor nature’s gifts, reconnect with the community, and pray for good fortune. These vibrant and colorful celebrations are often a showcase of the neighborhood with local craft vendors, dancing, fireworks, carnival games, and even a lottery known as fukubiki.  The traditional game is said to have originated in 702 when Emperor Shomu held a New Year’s party where strips of paper were drawn for prizes like a beautiful cloth. Modern versions are sure-win raffles that can be held anytime of year where paper fukubiki are drawn from a wooden box. Fukubiki are said to reveal one’s fortune, and in more recent years, earn you a prize at your favorite retailer from mystery bags to discounts.  To bring the spirit of good fortune to you, we’ve started our own fukubiki-inspired tradition. From July 31st to August 9th, everyone will be a winner with a choice of up to four complimentary minis with a $100+ order. You may even win the chance to choose a full-size prize! Hadasei-3 resurfaces, hydrates, and protects, and is comprised of a special blend of fermented rice, green tea, and algae. Our dewy skin routine is powered by Hadasei-3, the backbone to some of our most glow-enhancing essences, serums, and moisturizers.

Japanese Matcha Benefits for Skin

Japanese Matcha Benefits for Skin

Matcha is finely powdered green tea that is known for its bright green hue, distinct cultivation, ceremonial preparation process, and transformative health benefits. There are different grades of matcha, with ceremonial being the most prized. Ceremonial-grade matcha comes from younger tea leaves that are more prized for their delicate flavor and potent health benefits. Matcha is also found in many skincare formulas, which might sound strange at first, but the green tea’s powerful antioxidants also work wonders on the skin, helping to soothe, calm, and balance.
